Critical Thinking Paper # 3.
Value = 90 Points.
Be sure to include which energy source you are investigating

Due November 18 in Wednesday Night Class

Due November 20 in Day Classes

For CT # 3 I'm going to ask you to investigate one of the potential energy sources in our future. Where will we get our energy in 2050? 2100? In class we've talked about some of the alternatives: Solar Photovoltaics; Concentrating Solar; Nuclear; Coal; Natural Gas; Wind. But there is also Algae, waves, and other stuff. Where are we going? Which will predominate in forty years and in ninety years? And don't forget the "Conservation" option. If you follow this one, look at what is being done now, and what further we could do to reduce consumption of power. And think of power in the broadest context for this question--it is so much more than electrical generation/savings.

The basic guidelines are the same as for CT # 1 and CT # 2.

Follow the Critical Thinking Guidelines exactly.

Remember that you MUST use sources as noted on the Critical Thinking Paper Guidelines. Failure to have four books and/or peer-reviewed journals as identified by "EBSCO" will result in a score of zero on the paper. Why? Because you can't argue effectively without utilizing credible sources. No dictionaries or Wikipedia.

To force you to think and write concisely, we require that the "Analysis" section contain between 375 amd 425 words.
The maximum paper length is 550 words. This gives you 125-175 words for the other five headings (depending upon the total in "Analysis"). My suggest is to use all the words allowed. Write a 550 word paper. The "Interpretation" section is very important, it leads into your topic.

The following information MUST appear on your paper:

Which Energy Source you've chosen.
1. Word count for "Analysis" = ___________. [375-425]
2. Total word count = ______________ [550 max-serious deduction for too many words]. Include headings or not--your choice. Don't include "List of Sources/Bibliography" in the word count.
3. Your name
4. TA name
5. Recitation Time
6. Paper Title
7. Due Date

Grading for Critical Thinking Paper # 3

Logistics = -10% for not being there.
Style/Format/ = 25% with 14% coming under "Grammar/Writing Quality"
Content 65% with 45% coming under "Analysis"
WOW! factor. 10% If you expect a good score, your paper must jump out at the TA.

These papers can be written on the front and back of one sheet of paper OR on two sheets of paper previously used on one side. Doing so will garner you 1EC point. Failure to do so will cost you 2 points.
