Invasive Species Biologist Albany NY The Invasive Species Biologist for the New York Natural Heritiage Program s (NYNHP) Invasive Species Database Program (ISDBP) works to conserve NYS s plants and animals by supporting the work of individuals and organizations in the state working to prevent, manage or control invasive species. 1. Ensure that the iMapInvasives on-line database is as accurate, up-to-date and comprehensive to serve the needs of the end-users. " Develop, update and maintain the list of species to track on the iMapInvasives database. Establish and lead a scientific review committee of state experts to assist and advise regarding which species to track. Review species observations submitted to iMapInvasives, review digital photos, follow-up on selected invasive species reports. " With the New York Invasive Species Research Institute and the Cornell Cooperative Extension Invasive Species Program, develop, maintain network of experts to serve as resources for species identification. " Ensure data provided by iMapInvasives is as inclusive and representative of invasive species locations in NYS. Work with partners to develop data-sharing agreements and to maintain periodic updates. " Conduct field work as needed and supervise summer field staff. 2. Serve the needs of the iMapInvasives User Community via Formal Venues, Outreach and Informal Networking. " Organize and lead the iMapInvasives User Advisory Committee and the bi- annual Invasive Species Database Workshop. " Develop the citizen-science aspect of the iMapInvasives project. " Liaison to the New York Invasive Species Research Institute Advisory Committee. " Ensure high-profile invasive species e-mail alerts generated by iMapInvasives are provided to the appropriate partners. " Write articles for a wide range of publications. Provide content for iMapInvasives. " Give presentations at various venues. 3. Develop training materials and conduct training for iMapInvasives. " With the NYS Partnerships for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISMs) and CCE-ISP develop materials specific to each PRISM. " Develop on-line training modules for iMapInvasives. " Conduct various trainings including Train-the-trainer sessions, Assessment Training and on-line training. 4. In collaboration with the ISDBP GIS Specialist and other NYNHP staff, develop GIS analyses to assist the work of PRISM staff and others working on invasive species issues. " Develop predictive models,rovide data layers from the models for high-impact invasive species. " Develop methods to prioritize invasive species eradication efforts using NYNHP rare species and significant ecosystem data and other relevant data layers.
