Service Categories for Terra Cognita GIS and Spatial Analysis Laboratory, Wilkinson 204/204C

The Terra Cognita GIS and Spatial Analysis Laboratory is a unique research facility.  Located in the Department of Geosciences (204 Wilkinson Hall) Terra Cognita is open to all principal investigators in the College of Science, their students and cooperators.  In this facility, high end workstations and peripherals are maintained.  The laboratory provides cutting edge geographical information systems (GIS), image processing, statistical analysis and publishing software.  In addition, GIS consulting, system administration, network security, and data storage are provided.

Level I Services - Principal Investigators conducting research in Terra Cognita and contributing $10,000 for research staff, system administration, and facility maintenance.

      • One back room cubical/office (Wilkinson 204c), workstation accounts, and hard disk space.
      • Exclusive access to a workstation with current GIS, image processing, statistical analysis, and publication software.
      • GIS support and research assistance up to 200 hours per year.
      • Free access to printing services other than the HP 5000ps plotter.
      • Data backup and archive.
      • System administration, software upgrades and laboratory maintenance.

Level II Services - Principal Investigators conducting research in Terra Cognita and contributing $5,000 for research staff, system administration, and facility maintenance.

      • One front room seat, workstation account, and hard disk space.
      • Priority access to a workstation with current GIS, image processing, statistical analysis, and publication software.
      • GIS support and research assistance up to 100 hours per year.
      • Free access to printing services other than the HP 5000ps plotter.
      • Data backup and archive.
      • System administration, software upgrades and laboratory maintenance.

Level III Services - Principal Investigators conducting research in Terra Cognita and contributing $1,000 for system administration and facility maintenance.

      • One front room seat, workstation account, and disk space.
      • Access to workstations as available with GIS, image processing, statistical analysis, and publication software
      • Free access to printing services other than the HP 5000ps plotter
      • Data backup and archive.
      • System administration, software upgrades, and laboratory maintenance

  • Two Sun Ultra 10 (UNIX)
  • Two Dell Workstations (600MHz, 512MB)

  • HP LaserJet 4M Plus black and white printer
  • HP DesignJet 650C color plotter
  • One HP ScanJet plat bed color scanner
