Homework Assignment # 1: Carbon
Footprint
10AM and 12PM and 2PM Sections: Due in Recitation on Friday January 10.
8 PM Wednesday night Section due in Lecture Wednesday January 15
Personal Impact.
Work your way through it, taking some notes so you can write intelligently
about what you found out. This is a really generalized Carbon Calculator, but
it was the first one, and it has cool graphics :)
Some of these things will not apply to students living in dorms. Call Mom,
call Uncle Eddie, call your significant other. Not
currently staying in a house does NOT exempt you from this assignment.
It's OK with me if you experiment with different values,
especially try a different country--a poor one to compare your US findings with
a different country.
Write 125 words on what you found out.
Then:
It's ostensibly for Canadians, but hey CO2 weighs the same everywhere. Make
your own list of things that you can reasonably do to reduce your CO2 footprint
by 2 tons. Justify your list in a 125 word write-up.
Full Credit for this assignment requires a 250 word write-up on what you
found out.
We encourage you to handwrite your assignments on the back of used paper,
and those who do so will receive one Bonus point. Don't double space stuff in
this class.
