Sharon began working as a local government planner for Columbia County in 1973 after graduating from Scappoose High School. After working for a year for Columbia County she wanted to pursue planning as a profession, but at that time there were no undergraduate planning programs available so she pursued a degree in Geography at OSU. Sharon received a BS in Geography in 1979. Through part-time work while studying at OSU and after graduation she was involved in preparation of local jurisdiction Comprehensive Plans and Development Codes for several cities and counties in Oregon including the City of Albany and Washington County. In 1984 she spent most of the year traveling around the world and was married in Kathmandu Nepal.

Upon returning to Oregon, Sharon worked for TriMet for 7 years, primarily on planning for Portland area Light Rail Transit Projects. In 1991 she moved to Metro, the regional government for the Portland Metropolitan area, where she spent the next 14 years doing Transit Corridor Planning. At Metro, Sharon led the land use and environmental planning analysis for the region's light rail projects and had responsibility for the preparation of the NEPA EIS documents for the region's LRT Projects. In May 2005, Sharon joined URS Corporation's Transportation Planning Group in Portland where she is working on a variety of transportation projects in the Northwest Region, including a proposed light rail transit project in the Vancouver BC area.

Sharon lives in NW Portland. Her daughter Tara is a Junior at Colgate University in New York where she is studying environmental biology and playing on the Women's Soccer team. Her son Adam is a freshman at the University of Oregon.

In her spare time Sharon enjoys restoring her 1908 house in NW Portland, and outdoor and community service activities.
