Janine Castro is a geomorphologist with the US Fish and Wildlife Service with responsibilities throughout the state of Oregon . This position includes all aspects of fluvial geomorphology, including stream restoration, sediment erosion, transport and deposition, channel design, dam removal, and channel evolution.
Janine is currently the Technical Director of the Portland State University River Restoration Professional Certificate Program and is the Program Coordinator for River Restoration Northwest, a non-profit that focuses on providing public forums and educational opportunities for practitioners in the area of river restoration.
She holds a PhD in Geography (1997) from OSU, an MS in Interdisciplinary Studies: Environmental Geomorphology (1993) from California State University , Chico , a BS in Geology and a BA in Geography (1991) also from Chico State .
Janine lives in Vancouver , Washington , with her husband, son, and niece. She enjoys flying gliders, traveling, quilting, and reading Russian literature.
