Member of the Board of Advisors

John N. Bubb

I was born September 17, 1935 in Weiser, Idaho and raised in Huntington, Oregon. I graduated from Oregon State University in 1958 with a B. S. in Geology and with a M. S. degree in Geology in 1960. I received my Ph. D. degree in Geology form Indiana University in 1963 and joined Humble Oil’s Exploration research lab in Houston that same year. Humble’s lab was merged with the Standard Oil of Jersey Research lab in 1966 to become Exxon Production Research company. From 1963 to 1968, I worked in the areas of carbonate petrography and sedimentology, including having responsibility for conducting Exxon’s Modern Carbonate School in the Bahamas and Florida Keys. From 1968 to 1972, I was transferred into the Geophysical Division as a seismic stratigrapher and, later project leader, in Pete Vail’s highly successful seismic stratigraphy group. In 1972, I transferred to P. T. Stanvac Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia first as a geophysical interpreter and, then, as the geologic manager. In 1974, I moved to Singapore and, then, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as geophysical manager and, then, exploration manager for Esso Production Malaysia Inc. and participated in Esso’s very successful exploration programs in the Malaysian concessions. In 1983, I was geophysical manager for Esso Exploration’s Europe-Africa Group in Walton-on-Thames, England and, then, geological manager fro that Group in Houston, Texas following the closing of the Walton –on-Thames office. From 1984 till 1990, I worked as a petroleum scientist for the Exploration Technical Assessment Group, a small group which reported directly to Exxon Corporation’s Board of Directors providing independent recommendations on all of Exxon’s significant exploration programs and acquisitions world-wide. From 1990 till my retirement in 1996, I was manager of the Frontier Exploration Group in Exxon Exploration Company’s Far-East Division. Since my retirement, I have done some consulting, but mostly have used my time for family, golf, travel and fishing.
