Graduate Application Instructions
The Department of Geosciences offers outstanding opportunities for graduate studies in the fields of geography and geology. The department seeks students with excellent, diverse and broad backgrounds and admission is highly competitive. Applicants must be admitted to Oregon State University by the Graduate School as well as being accepted by the Department of Geosciences.
Some students are advised by faculty in the Department of Geosciences but are majors in the Water Resources Graduate Program (WRGP). Consult their web pages for information on the WRGP.
Admission to the geography or geology graduate programs at Oregon State University requires:
- That you meet the OSU Graduate School's Minimum graduate admission requirements;
- That you have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;
- That your scholastic record indicates capability for doing satisfactory graduate study (at least a 3.00 GPA in the last two years); and
- That you have an appropriate academic background.
We highly recommend that you examine the research programs in the department before submitting an application. Contact any professors who work in the area you are interested in to discuss your research interests. This early contact is the best way to determine what opportunities there will be for graduate study and how to target your application. We welcome visits of prospective students to campus to meet faculty and students and to tour our facilities, campus and the surrounding community. See FAQs for additional information.
